Who created Wordle?
Wordle is a web-based word game created by a Welsh software engineer named Josh Wardle. The game was initially created for his partner, Palak Shah, who loved word games. The name of the game is a play on his surname.
The game was first introduced among Wardle's friends and family, and upon observing their enthusiasm for it, he decided to make it publicly available. The game was officially launched online in October 2021.
In January 2022, the game was purchased by The New York Times Company for an undisclosed low seven-figure sum. The game was moved to the Times website in February 2022 and remains free for all players for now.
